How to do the Independent Writing Exercises

Click on the "EXERCISES" link in the left frame. When the new frame opens, you'll see EXERCISES, Vocabulary, ...., and then Writing Topics. When you click on Writing Topics, a new frame will open and you'll see nine or ten of them.

Choose the one you want to write about. Hint: Don't always choose the one you "like" or know a lot about. Remember: On the exam you won't have a choice, so maybe it's a good idea to choose one that you find difficult (or stupid or boring). This will give you some real  practice.

When you've chosen the subject you want to write about, highlight it with your mouse and copy it into the clipboard. Then click on the graphic of the postman in the left frame.

-> I'm off to Buchstr. (postman)

A form will open in which you can write your essay.

1. First, please put your cursor where it says Question, and paste the question in that form field.

2. Then, please type your email address, your name, and the date in the respective fields.

3. Next, please click the Start button, and the clock will begin to count down. You have thirty (30) minutes to plan and type your reply. On the real test, the computer stops you from typing after exactly thirty´, so if you do the practice essays within this time limit, it'll help you prepare for the test.

When you've finished your essay, click on "Send".

Try it now please. Click on EXERCISES in the left frame. When you're sure you understand what to do, click on Writing Topics. (If you forget what to do, click on See the directions again.)

Oh yes ... to see how I'll correct the essays, please click here.

The directions for the Integrated Writing Tasks are a bit different. They'll be explained later.
