1st Paragraph - State your reason for writing:
Briefly mention how you learned of this opportunity, or how the employer’s name was obtained, e.g. through a conversation with Chris Klein, I have developed an interest in your company.

OR I am responding to your advertisement in the November 12th edition of the Chicago Tribune.

OR Pat Perez recommended I contact you regarding employment possibilities at XYZ Corporation.

2nd Paragraph - Emphasize and elaborate upon your strongest qualifications:
Let the employer know when you are available/graduating. Highlight your most relevant education, skills, and experiences as they relate to the position or organization. Discuss specific projects and achievements that emphasize what you have to offer. Communicate how your background will enable you to quickly become a productive member of his/her staff. Convey that you are a strong contributor, and confidently state that you would be an asset to their organization. Sell yourself!

3rd Paragraph - State expected action/closing:
State your desire to speak with the employer. Indicate that you will call on a particular date and hope to arrange a meeting at their earliest convenience. If you are conducting a long-distance search, let the employer know that you will be in the area on the week of.... Take an active approach to your job search!
